What is a data broker?
A data broker is a business that aggregates consumer information from public records, online activities, and purchase histories to build detailed personal profiles. They sell or license these profiles to third parties for targeted advertising, risk assessment, background checks, and more.
Is this actually legal?
Yes. State privacy laws give you the right to opt out of or delete data broker records. We act as your authorized agent to exercise your right to opt-out with the same standing you'd have submitting the requests yourself.
What if a broker doesn't comply?
You have access to the full record of what was sent and when, plus the broker's response (or lack of one). That's the paper trail non-compliance gets reported against.
Won't the data just come back?
Often, yes — brokers re-acquire data on their own schedules which is why we send opt-out requests every 60 days. This way a removal doesn't quietly expire while you're not watching.
Which brokers do you actually cover?
Our registry has 151 brokers in it. You're covered for every one that accepts requests from your state — a few are state-scoped by the broker's own rule, and your dashboard shows exactly which apply to you. Every request carries a timestamped record of what was sent and what came back, re-sent every 60 days. Where we've built an automated route we use it; where we haven't, we submit by hand. Which one a broker gets is our problem to solve, not something we pass on to you. If you're in California, the state's own DROP platform separately reaches every broker registered there in a single free filing; you submit that one yourself, because California verifies your identity directly, and we'll walk you through it and track the deadline from your dashboard.
Do I still need this if I'm in California?
DROP gets you reach — one filing, every registered broker. What it doesn't give you is a record: status lives on a state portal you have to go and check, and there's nothing you can hand to anyone. We keep the timestamped evidence of every request we send and every response we get, and we keep sending them on a schedule so a removal doesn't quietly expire.
